Whirinaki Hunting and Food Gathering:

Hunting for red deer and pigs is a popular activity in Whirinaki and the surrounding region and is a source of food for the local people. These introduced animals along with possums stoats, rats, cats, dogs and other pests are a threat to the sensitive forest ecosystem and the wide variety of native species that live in balance within it. We invite you to join us on a adventure tourism experience to help control destructive intruders in our native forest.

Food gathering - Deer Stalking or Pig Hunting:

Call in at the Kokiri Heath Centre in Minginui and make enquiries there, or call Andy Kohiti Ph (07) 366 3023 (pref evenings) and one of his boys may be able to take you as they go to collect food for their family.
