Mountain biking to enjoy in Whirinaki

Ride Whirinaki MTB

The Whirinaki Forest Park Mountain Bike Track has been purpose built and weaves through one of the most spectacular and interesting forests in the world. DOC openmed this on 12th August 2006

The track is designed for the eco mountain bike rider and requires a medium fitness and skill level (grade 2-3). It is 16km long and most people complete it in 2-4 hours (shorter portions of the track can also be ridden).

VIDEO Whirinaki MTB Quest Nov 2008

We invite mountainbikers to come to Whirinaki - not just as an exciting place to ride, but for its natural beauty and tranquility. We trust that many in return will come to cherish it and give something of themselves back to help protect one of the world's richest rainforests for all time.

Opening Powhiri by Ngati Whare on Murumurunga Marae and official opening of the track

Our marae is the gateway to Whirinaki and we invite groups of mountainbikers and other visitors to experience our welcome and hospitality

WARNING DIDYMO - as Kaitiaki we require all bikes to be clean before entering Whirinaki please.

There is a lively discussion group on the NZ mountainbiking website that was opened to help gather in peoples feelings and arrive at an appropriate way to make this happen. http://www.mountainbike.co.nz/forum/read.php?f=17&i=3600&t=3600
